Avaya was spun off from Lucent in 2001, which itself was a spin-off from AT&T. The India center of Lucent in Pune became Avaya India. The crown jewel Communication Manager has a big team here. They work in C, Java. More recently, Avaya is trying to reinvent itself as a software company. There is a lot of work of contact center solution, which is being developed here as well. The development team is 700-people strong. There is a support team as well and marketing arm, known as AGCL.

AGCL - listed on NSE - was originally Tata Telecom. - is a separate legal entity. When Avaya bought 51% stocks, it was renamed to "Avaya Global Connect"
