PuneJava

There are three different Java related mailing lists / user groups in Pune. It is still unclear why three of them exist, but such is life.

Here is the story, as best as I can make out:

The Pune-Java Yahoo group has over over 1000 members world-wide. According the the home page of the mailing list "Though most of our discussions are on this [mailing list], the group members do meet informally every month." However, it does not appear that this group has any offline meetings at this time. The Pune-Java mailing list was started by Satish Talim of Ruby Learning. Later, it appears that Ashish Kulkarni became the moderator of this group. In mid-2008, Ashish moved from Yahoo groups to Google groups. Ashish no longer lives in Pune. I am still trying to figure out whether the Pune-Java Yahoo group is supposed to be replaced by the Pune-Java google group, or they will both exist in parallel.

The JavaPune google group is a newer, smaller mailing list, and the focus seems to be more on monthly meetings which happen on the first Saturday of every month, right after the Pune Linux Users Group (PLUG) meeting. The JavaPune group was started by Harshad Oak of IndicThreads.

If and when I get clarifications, this page will be updated. In the meantime, I suggest you sign up for all three.
