[edit] OpenID Overview

SingleID is the product of the growing trend of streamlining digital identity management procedures across the World Wide Web – where OpenID is rapidly gaining vast acceptance and appeal. Already thousands of websites have become OpenID enabled, with many thousands more on the way.

The procedure for enabling websites for OpenID is relatively simple and straightforward. OpenID enabled websites mainly ensure a smooth and user-friendly website usability experience to new and experienced users of a website.

To find out more about OpenID and its various applications across the internet visit http://openid.net. If you want to know more about how you can enable your website for OpenID, you can contact SingleID and they can assist you with the intricacies of this technology.

[edit] About SingleID.net

SingleID.Net offers users the facility to create an OpenID for themselves for free. This digital identity is in the form of a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) and is in the standard OpenID format of http://yournamehere.singleid.net.

Users can create their account and fill it with minimal information about themselves (like their first name, last name and date of birth) – which is similar to any standard form on any website. However, once this form has been filled up, users can simply sign up with any OpenID enabled website and never fill up the form on any of these sites because the information is simply shared by SingleID with those websites.

In order for SingleID to share this information, users can choose from among several options like an ‘Allow Once’ one-time sharing, or an ‘Allow Forever’ all-time sharing and even a ‘Deny’ option.

Users can create multiple such SingleID(s) if they want to, or simply choose to keep the same SingleID across the internet.

[edit] Value Proposition

The exciting part about having an OpenID account is that both users and member sites benefit from it.

Benefits for the End-User:

  • You don't have to remember multiple user IDs and passwords – just one login
  • Portability of your identity. This gives you better control over your identity.

Benefits for the OpenID enabled websites:

  • No more registration forms: With OpenID, websites can get rid of the clutter of the registration forms and allow users to quickly engage in better use of their sites.
  • Picture this: you have invested a fortune to optimize your website for search results or have invested in advertising in Google or Yahoo! and out of a thousand click through(s), maybe a hundred will be impressed enough to reach your sign up page. But throw a registration page and 50 of them are lost!!
  • Incresed stickiness: Users are more likely to come back since they do not have to remember an additional username-password combination.
  • Up-to-date registration information: Due to the need of frequent registrations, users often provide junk or inaccurate personal information. With OpenID, since only a one-time registration is necessary, users are more likely to provide more accurate data.

[edit] Security

In theory, OpenID is designed to give the strongest security guarantees. In practice, the security provided will depend upon the implementation details of the OpenID provider (in this case SingleID). See SingleID's security statement for details.
