Opportunities in Cleantech (IT/analytics/internet-of-things) – with Infuse Ventures (Cleantech VC)

  • Date: Fri, 18 Jul 5:30pm – 7:30pm
  • Location: 5th Floor, A-Wing, MCCIA, ICC Towers, SB Road

Infuse Ventures, India’s largest early-stage cleantech VC fund, in partnership with MCCIA, TiE-Pune and POCC, would like to invite you for a unique event on Friday, 18 July 2014 at the MCCIA Trade Tower, Pune. The event will focus on the ‘breadth of entrepreneurial opportunities in cleantech’. While we will outline the ever-expanding boundaries of cleantech, we will also specifically focus on ‘the role of IT, data analytics and internet of things (IoT) in cleantech’.

Traditionally, the cleantech sector has been equated with extensive R&D, technology-heavy and project businesses that require huge capital investment. However, things have been changing. In the west, many different businesses have come up in the clean technology space that rely heavily on data capture, data sharing and analytics to enable energy and resource efficiency and promote sustainability in homes and across commercial and industrial set-ups. The importance of data and the ability to learn and act based on it is changing the paradigm of looking at the clean technology space.

We hope this session will throw open a new area of potential growth for entrepreneurs who are already in either the cleantech space or IT, data analytics and IoT space. Additionally, we hope this session will help you take a fresh look at your (or your company’s) current capabilities from a fast-evolving cleantech perspective. We believe that the cleantech opportunity is as immense as the web itself, since it increasingly touches every aspect of how we live, work and play.

At the event, you will also get an opportunity to listen to a few exemplary entrepreneurs who re-purposed or applied their non-cleantech capabilities to the cleantech field.

The event is free and open to everyone. No registration is necessary. The seating is on a first-come-first-seated basis. The Infuse team will be on hand on the following day, 19 July, for 1-on-1 meetings with any current or aspiring cleantech entrepreneurs.

Pune Robotics Meetup: Robots/Raspberry Pi/Arduino Home Projects Demo

  • Location: Robofun, 205, Vision Galleria, Opp G-Mart, Pimple Saudagar

Bring your own Robot or any other project (on Raspberry Pi/ Arduino platforms) you might have developed and share your story with the group!!

This meet-up is for people who have built something interesting at home and are interested in displaying/ demo their product to a smaller audience first before going big for a quick and constructive feedback and share their experience/ knowledge with others who share similar interest.

I believe kids who are pursuing or want to pursue Robotics as their hobby can also benefit from such opportunities and so they are welcome to join too along with heir parents!!

About the Pune Robotics Meetup

This group is about giving a platform to all robotic enthusiasts and jointly find ways to promote this hobby across Pune. We often receive enquiries from parents about how to get their children started in robotics. ‘Does my child have to know a lot about programming in order to engage in robotics?’ ‘My child is only 6 years old. Is it too early for him to start doing robotics?’ The answer to these questions is ‘NO’. In fact, the appeal of robotics lies precisely in the fact that it is a sport for everyone, regardless of experience and age. One can find like-minded people across the world, ranging from young hobbyist in primary school extra-curriculum clubs to professional researchers in NASA robotics research lab. Perhaps, to many children, the world of robotics may seem to be complicated and mysterious. After all, the daily newspaper is filled with breaking discoveries in the world of robotics. Yet, robotics, at fundamental level, can be very simple. Do not hesitate to take your very first step into robotics—for it promises a journey of unending fun and discoveries!

Call for Speakers: JSFoo JavaScript Conference Pune

HasGeek, the folks who brought us high quality tech conferences like DocType Html5 and DroidCon, are organizing [JSFoo] a JavaScript conference in Pune on 21st January. Considering that JavaScript is one of the most important programming languages in the world today, anyone who is interested in technology should consider attending this conference, and if you have done some work in JavaScript, they you should definitely speak at the conference.

More details below.

About JSFoo

JSFoo is a one day conference on building full size apps in JavaScript. Come over for a full day with the smartest geeks from across India who have figured it out and will show you how. We have sessions covering the range from pure JavaScript apps in Node.js to real-time streaming of data to building entirely in the client side with Backbone.js.

This is an event for serious JavaScript programmers who want to learn from their peers.

The JSFoo conference series began with a Bangalore edition on October 1, 2011, followed by [Pune][http://jsfoo.in/pune2012/] and Chennai (upcoming).

Call for Speakers

Why be a speaker at a conference. First, you get a free ticket. Second, you instantly establish yourself as a expert in your area. Finally, this is a great way to meet the most interesting people working in this area. All you need to do is talk about some experience you’ve had with building JavaScript apps, or a tool, or a platform. The talk is expected to be 30 minutes, with additional 10 minutes for Q&A. At this point, all you need to do is submit the title of your talk at the JSFoo Speaker Submission Page

Schedule and Tickets

JSFoo is a paid conference. Regular tickets cost Rs. 800 and you can register here.

To get an idea of the talks and speakers lined up see this page. Note, this is still a partial list and more will get added based on further speaker submissions.

Other Details

The event is on 21st January, all day, at 7th floor, SICSR, (Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research, near Om Market, Model Colony). Register here

There is also a JavaScript Hacknight on 14th January (one week before the actual conference) which gives 30 of the attendees a chance to spend an entire night hacking on interesting JavaScript projects. See hacknight videos from JSFoo Bangalore to get an idea of what a hacknight is. Hacknight is open to all registered participants of JSFoo Pune, but requires separate registration because the venue (Office of http://amiworks.co.in) has limited space.

JSFoo: http://jsfoo.in/

JSFoo/HasGeek’s JavaScript HackNight Pune – Jan 14

No matter what programming language and platform you work on today, it is almost certain that at least one of the user interfaces to your software product/service is written using JavaScript. JavaScript is easily the language that is available on far, far more computing devices in the world than any other language, considering it is present by default on all desktop browsers and most mobile phone browsers. Thus, if your in the software space, is no alternative but to accept JavaScript – it is the default.

A JavaScript hack night – i.e. a night of hacking on JavaScript with 30 others from Pune and elsewhere in India has been organized on Saturday, 14th January, at AmiWorks office (SB Road, Pune), in conjunction with the [JSFoo] JavaScript in conference which will also be held in Pune a week later. (To clarify, the JavaScript Hacknight is on 14th Jan, night, and the [JSFoo] conference is on 21st January, daytime.)

The hacknight is open for any registered participant of the [JSFoo] conference, but since space is limited at the venue, you will need to register separately for it. All you need to do is get your laptop, and get ready for lots of JavaScript programming, learning, and discussions. To get an idea of what a JSFoo hacknight is like, check out these videos from JSFoo Hacknight Bangalore.

Techweekend Pune – Rich Internet Apps (HTML5, Javascript, Flash, Silverlight) – 27 Nov

The desktop is dead. The browser and the mobile have killed it.

For years now, there has been a shift away from traditional desktop apps and native OS GUIs towards browser based interfaces for all applications, whether they’re personal/consumer apps, or enterprise apps.

Now, with the rise of very smart phones like iPhone, tablet devices, 3G internet available everywhere, and the coming of age of rich interactions in HTML with HTML5 and javascript, “ubiquitous computing” has finally arrived. People expect to be able to work on their applications from anywhere – from their desktop PC at work, or their laptop from home, or their iPad or iPhone or Blackberry when on the road. And the easiest way of ensuring that your app is available on all these platforms is to go with a “RIA” platform.

That’s what we’ll discuss this weekend on Saturday, November 27, at MCCIA Hall in ICC Towers on S.B. Road. We will talk about HTML5, and why it will take over the world. We will talk about how Javascript is the one language you cannot afford to not know, whether you’re talking about apps on your laptop or on your mobile phone. We will talk about Phonegap and Titanium, cross-platform platforms that allow you to write once using Javascript/HTML/CSS and run the app on desktops or mobiles alike. We’ll talk about Adobe’s offerings – AIR and Flash, and how they are the “incumbent” rulers of this space, and will not easily lose to HTML5. And we’ll talk about Microsoft’s Silverlight, and how that plans to break into this club.

The talk is free for all, and you must come, if you want to know what the world will be like for the next 3 years. You need to register at http://techweekend4.eventbrite.com. That page also contains the current list of speakers (which is being updated as we get more confirmations).

Yes, you, the people working on desktop frontend GUIs using java or .NET or VB or Qt – you are the ones who definitely need to come. Some might argue that desktop apps are certainly not dead – definitely not in enterprises. That is true, but only in the same sense as mainframes are still not dead in the enterprise, and COBOL is still not dead in the enterprise. But, for the forward-thinking, RIAs are the way to go, even when you are confined to the insides of your enterprise – just the expansion of that term will change to Rich Intranet Apps. That’s all.

Many thanks to Microsoft for sponsoring the venue for Techweekend. Microsoft wants to get more closely involved with the tech community in Pune, and particularly the open source enthusiasts – with the intention of making everybody aware that their cloud technologies (like Azure) actually play well with open source, and that you can deploy your php applications, your drupal/joomla installs on Azure.
