To sustain in today’s competitive global market, having a presence in the world’s best markets is imperative. A combination of the world’s best markets as well as those that are cost-effective helps in bringing in the required competitive advantage.

>@PuneUserGroup event: (Microsoft Technologies) Transforming the Data Center

  • Date: Sat, 2 Aug 10:00am – 5:30pm
  • Location: Sumant Moolgaokar Auditorium, Ground Floor, Wing A, ICC Trade Center, SB Road

In the face of an exploding need for technology that supports the business, we need to transform the datacenter to increase agility and make it easier to deliver resources faster. Today, every area of the business, from marketing to sales to human resources, depends on technology. As a result, the need for IT resources is growing steadily. The move to cloud computing reflects the trend: as business requirements grow, a flexible option for keeping up with that growth is by accessing cloud capacity.

We are all seeing trends that reflect the growth of cloud—the question is: how can IT build a cloud strategy that makes sense? And just as important, how can IT continue to take advantage of the strengths of today’s datacenter while evolving to a new hybrid cloud model? One critical step is upgrading older resources. Now is especially timely for an upgrade as July 14, 2015 marks the end of support date for Windows Server 2003. This provides a wonderful opportunity for you to modernize your infrastructure.

Please join us and learn how latest Microsoft technologies provide great options for reducing cost and complexity, as well as simplifying management. As we mark one year until Windows Server 2003 end of support, we want customers to feel confident that they have a great
path forward. During this event, you’ll learn many features of Cloud and Datacenter management including:

  • Computing with Cloud OS
  • Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Still with Windows Server 2003? Migrate it!
  • Virtualization and Cloud Backup
  • System Center in Datacenter Management

PHP Reboot Meetup: Web Security in PHP

  • Date: Sat, 2 Aug 11:00am – 1:00pm
  • Location: GraciousSoft Office, First Floor, Above Jijamata Sahkari Bank, Karve Nagar Bus Stop

Speaker: Kapil Sharma, Technical Architect at Eastern Enterprise with 10 years experience in Web Development.

Web securities in PHP.

Most important factors for a web application are:

  • Performance
  • Maintainability
  • Scalability
  • Reliability and
  • Security

Among developers, Security is one of the most ignored topics. In this session, we will discuss some of the common security threats for a web application and how we can fix them.

Web Security is technology/language independent topic and most of the session will not use any specific programming language. Thus any web developer is most invited to attend the event. However please note, towards the end, we will use simple PHP examples to demonstrate how can we practically take care of security issues.

About PHP Reboot

Today, web development is completely different from what it was two decades ago. PHP matured and developed many new features during this time. However one of the biggest problem with any old language like PHP is, developers have access to lot of old training material/book and learn things which were good in past but not in present.

Major and only goal of PHP reboot is to share and learn, latest and best offering from PHP. This is continuous learning curve and we are here to do it continuously.

(Paid) : A Front-End Engineering Conference

  • Date: Wed, 9 Jul 9:00am – 1:00pm
  • Location: 5th Floor, A-Wing, MCCIA, ICC Towers, SB Road

Web is very big, beyond the capacity of any one person to comprehend it. Started out as a simple document sharing platform, it rapidly became the communication standard for the world. Static content was replaced by dynamic content. What once were simple websites, are now replaced by complex web applications. Web is not one single technology. It is a mix of hardware, networks, protocols and lots more. However, one aspect of web did not receive the attention as it should have. That one aspect is the User Interface. Other than handful of computer engineers, web is being used by billions of people without having any formal knowledge of computer science. For these users, web is one black box that does things magically. All they have is access to web front-end in the form of websites and web applications. But still, front-end did not get deserved attention. But there were few who gave their energy and efforts to keep the front-end revolution moving. And <web/F> is one such non-sponsored and non-profit effort to keep that revolution going.

What does <web/F> mean?

We focus only on front-end part of web. That is why ‘web-slash-f’ or simply <web/F>. It is our fundamental belief that building a user interface is not as easy as it is general assumed to be. Just like any other software engineering activity, building a better user interface is software engineering process. It needs a discipline, clear thought, future vision and caring attitude towards users. That is why we call it front-end engineering.

And finally it is not about building interfaces, it is about crafting interfaces.

Speakers

Kumar Bhot: An entrepreneur, a technical leader and an established mentor. An inside-out Front-end Architect and Usability Engineer whose last 17 years are dedicated to crafting Web User Interfaces.

Harshal Patil: An avid writer at heart but worthy of wearing many hats. Love Front-end Engineering and always amazed by the challenges of this role.

Niloy Mondal: A Seasoned Front-end Engineer with Un-parallel Technical Skills.
Believe it when you hear him.

Guest speakers

Sagar Apte: Founder at CarIQ. A sharp mind in Product Management, Product Marketing and Business Analytics.

Deepak Thomas: Interface Design Ninja and Co-founder at CarIQ. A gifted artist with an impeccable eye for clean and simple user interfaces.

Pritam Hasabnis: Co-founder & Director at Omni-Bridge Systems. 15 years in IT Industry. Master at Project Management and Database Architecture.

Amit Shitole: Co-founder & Director at Omni-Bridge Systems. Serial Entrepreneur. Business Development and Marketing Strategy Guru.

Pune Cocoa Meetup: Understanding Bonjour and Peer-to-Peer networking

  • Date: Sat, 12 Jul 3:00pm – 5:00pm
  • Location: Synerzip (3rd Floor, Revolution Mall, next to City Pride, Kothrud, Pune)

Apple’s Bonjour is a “zero configuration network” (Zeroconf) multicast Domain Naming System (mDNS) protocol used by Apple devices to enable the automatic and easy discovery of computers, devices, and services on IP networks. Bonjour (like other multicast services like Avahi and Microsoft’s UPnP) uses industry standard IP protocols to allow devices to automatically discover each other without the need to enter IP addresses or configure DNS servers. The elegance of this approach is that it brings simplicity and ease-of- use to the users of network devices and services. Eliminating the need to set up services such as Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, DNS, and DNS Service Directory, Bonjour enables each device to continuously publish and discover services. By broadcasting Bonjour service messages, printers, servers, and other shared devices can advertise the services they offer. Client devices then monitor Bonjour advertisements and connect to the appropriate servers, as with any other service. The protocol also allows for a device to request services (Service Discovery) on the network as well as respond to incoming requests, which in some cases means a single device can be both a client and a server at the same time. The automatic discovery makes it easy for clients like iPads and Macbooks to easily use a printer using AirPrint or mirror a display to a projector using AirPlay

DrupalCamp Background

Drupal in Pune started back in February 2009 as Pune Drupal User Group (PDRUG), with an objective to strengthen the local Drupal community in Pune. The first meetup saw 3 Drupalers, in last year we have been able to engage Drupalers in monthly code sprints where focus is on on D8 core contributions. In addition to code sprints, Pune community has also organised global training days and specialized workshops for Pune colleges.

The first Drupal Camp Pune was organized back in 2009. In this first camp there were 300+ attendees. One of the fun highlights of the Drupal Camp Pune 2009 was the Drupal Song which featured in Dries’s blog :), we soon followed up Drupal Day/Hackathon in presence of Addison Berry (former documentation lead, Drupal). Between 2010 and 2014, Drupal community has been focusing on a lot of Drupal meet ups and now its time to have a bigger event: “Drupal Camp Pune 2014.”

What to expect?

In Drupal Camp Pune 2014 you will meet some of the earliest contributors to Drupal in India from around the country. For developers and students, the event presents opportunities for learning, getting involved in community contributions via code/ review/ QA for Drupal 8. One of the main objective of this camp is to engage students more personally in a ladder like workshop. For the business community there will be an opportunity for learning from sessions based on case studies of Drupal websites, meeting representatives of the leading Drupal companies in India, and some of the brightest individuals working on Drupal.

What should I bring to Pune Drupal Camp?

Just come with Open mind and laptop with Drupal 7 installation. You can follow instruction over here.

PHPCamp – the biggest PHP conference in India – in Pune on 5th March

PHPCamp is back.

PHPCamp is the biggest PHP conference in India and happens in Pune every year. Why should you go?

  • If you’re a student interested in web development, you should go to find out what’s going on with the most popular web development language in the world.
  • If you’re a motivated student who would like to do some interesting projects, and are looking for a mentor/guide/advisor from Industry, PHPCamp would be a good place to find some
  • If you’re a web developer and would like to interact with other passionate web developers and find out what interesting things they’re working on, then the hallway conversations at PHPCamp should attract you
  • If you’re a non-technical founder of a startup and are looking for technical co-founders, this is the place to be.
  • If you’re looking for a development partner, or a small company to which you’d like to outsource web development work, then PHPCamp is the place to find the most interesting ones

What is PHPCamp?

It is a barcamp for those interested in PHP. A barcamp is essentially a conference but without a pre-determined schedule or invited speakers. Anyone can attend. And on the morning of the conference, there is a whiteboard put up with all the open slots (for speaking), and anybody who has an interesting topic can write down their name and the topic and sign up as a speaker.

See the PHPCamp FAQ for more details.

This event is free and open for anybody to attend. It’s on Saturday, 5th March, from 9:30am to 5pm, at SICSR, at model colony. Please register here.

PHPCamp is back – Register to be a Speaker

India’s largest unconference, PHPCamp is back. PHPCamp 2011 will be on Saturday, 5th March, 2011. The venue is not yet decided but the call for speakers is out.

If you’ve done any interesting work in PHP, this is your chance to show it off to 100s of PHP developers and students (actually the number has been known to even go up to 1000). If your company is doing cool PHP work, then the easiest way to attract star PHP developers is to give a talk at PHPCamp.

PHPCamp is a “barcamp” for PHP developers and enthusiasts. It is basically an unorganized conference where anybody can attend, it is free and open to all, and anybody can register to be a speaker.

When: Monday, Feb 8, 2pm
Where: SICSR
Registration and Fees: Free for all to attend. No registration required

Details

This talk will cover web applications from a few different angles, starting with what they are and how they are commonly used; this will be a kind of quick behind the scenes look as well a tour of common use cases. Then it will look deeper into building them using two frameworks, Drupal and Django. This will help those of you who are interested in starting new projects and are not yet familiar with some of the available tools.

Next, a look closer at the different projects you can use to assemble your full stack. These are the underlying components of web applications; the most common configuration is called LAMP: Linux Apache MySQL and PHP. However we’ll also cover alternative web servers, database engines, and scripting languages, notably: nginx, SQLite, and Python.

Finally, get some hands on experience with modular development and middleware to see how web applications can be used in all types of environments. This demonstration will illustrate the power of effective and efficient web application programming and how any environment can benefit.

Attend PHPCamp, 9th Jan: Because learning from humans is much better than Google

You might have noticed that PHP is taking over the world, unless you live in a cave, or work for a large company.

Click on the logo to see all PuneTech posts about PHPCamp
Click on the logo to see all PuneTech posts about PHPCamp

A lot of the world’s biggest websites are built using PHP – Facebook, Wikipedia, Digg, Flickr. And try to do anything interesting on the web today, and you’ll almost be forced to do at least part of it in PHP. For example, it is very likely that you’ll need to write a facebook application for whatever you are doing – and guess what language is best for that? Yes, PHP.

If you’re someone who’re only mainly familiar .NET or Java, now would be a good time to move out of the age of dinosaurs and come into modern times, and find out more about PHP. And what better forum to do that than PHPCamp, the biggest PHP conference in India (actually, the biggest (un)conference in India). Last year, Pune had the first PHPCamp. 1200+ people registered for it, and over 700 showed up.

It’s time for part 2. It’s time to see if we can put up a better show. PHPCamp 2 is happening this Saturday, 9th January, from 9am to 6pm, at SCDL (Symbiosis Center of Distance Learning), Model Colony. Please note: that road has three different Symbiosis Institutes, SCDL, SICSR, SIFL. People always get confused, go to the wrong one, and confuse the security folks by asking them about PHP (they probably think it’s a new drug that kids are abusing these days). Be smart, and land up at the right one at first try. (Note: unfortunately, another big event the IIT-Bombay Alumni Association, Pune Chapter’s Innovations 2010 conference is also happening on same day, so Pune techies will be forced to choose between the two.)

So why go to PHPCamp? Because whether you like it or not, whether you’ve planned it or not, there’s PHP in your future. And the best way to find out more about something is by interacting with people who are passionate about it. And that, you’ll find in abundance at PHPCamp. People who love PHP. For example, people like Amit Kumar who created PHPCamp.net, a news site about PHP written using PHP.

If you are already into PHP, then PHPCamp is your way to find out the latest buzz in PHP. What’s new with CodeIgniter (the framework that allows you to create websites very quickly using PHP)? Would you like to meet a Joomla Expert, someone who’se website shows up as the second hit on a google search for ‘Joomla Expert’? He’s a Punekar and will be there. How about someone who has created 50 drupal websites in the past year or so, including one in Chinese? He‘ll be there too. Have you heard of modx, the new, very fast, content management system written in PHP? No? Well, then you should certainly attend PHPCamp.

If you’re a student, especially a 2nd or 3rd year student of computer science, events like this are the best place to find interesting people in industry who are actually interested in working with bright and motivated students. In 4th year, when you’re desperate for projects, or jobs, it will be too late. Instead start attending events like PHPCamp, and you’ll form relationships that will be very useful for you later. Attend the talks, and if you liked the topic or the speaker, walk up to him/her and tell them that you are a student and would like to do a project with them. It does NOT matter that you know nothing right now. Low knowledge and high enthusiasm is any day better than the vice versa. It does not matter that you are just in 2nd or 3rd year. It does not matter what college you’re from, or what degree you’re pursuing. And no, contrary to widespread beliefs, industry people do not bite or eat students. So you don’t need to be afraid of talking to them. What’s the worst that can happen?

Did I mention that it is free? That’s right, anyone can register, and attend without having to pay anything. Just show up. Tell them, PuneTech sent you…
